Notebook sales to build houses

PATHANAMTHITTA: Students at SCV Higher Secondary School, Kottanad, Ranni, here are on a humble effort to build 25 houses for the flood-affected people in the state.

They have designed a master plan to produce five lakh notebooks to raise funds for them.

A 180-page notebook worth Rs 45 will be sold at a discounted rate of '40 through NSS units in schools and colleges.

In the first phase, the construction of five houses will be commenced by December.

Seeing the difficulties faced by those who have lost their houses in flood, the students decided to design a housing project seeking the support of their teachers.

“Students trained in manufacturing good quality notebooks decided to produce it in large scale. They also approached agencies that construct houses for a budget of '4 lakh. They presented the project before the district collector P.B. Nooh in a meeting convened by the district administration,” A. Arun, NSS program officer, told DC.

As many as 1.5 lakh notebooks will be ready within 45 days for the first phase of fundraising.

The students aim a profit of '20 lakh from the sale of 100,000 notebooks.

In the second phase, four lakh notebooks will be produced to hit the target of 25 houses for the distressed raising a profit of '1 crore.
