MANGALURU: Police officials have initiated confidence-building measures in Mangaluru City. The measure comes after the cooker bomb exploded on Saturday injuring two people including the accused and the rickshaw driver.

The accused Mohammed Shariq and rickshaw driver Purushottam are still under treatment. Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar visited the hospital on Tuesday morning.

“We have initiated confidence-building measures in the city. In sensitive places of our limits we have increased picketing, and deployment, and are undertaking anti-sabotage checking and area domination. We are keeping a watch in the crowded areas like bus stands, railway stations, and malls,” the Commissioner told reporters.

“A video clip is making rounds on social media which claims to be of the accused speaking to another person. But that is not the clipping of the accused. It is a random video and not related to this case,” the Commissioner clarified.

Speaking about the condition of the accused, the Commissioner said that the treatment continues and the patient is in the same condition.

“Once the doctor certifies that he is fit, we will take him to custody and question him,” the Commissioner added.
