More than 15 feet of the nala has been encroached with just 10 feet left for the water to flow.

HYDERABAD: The Dhruvansh committee, looking into lakes around Hyderabad, alleged that there were encroachment on the downstream of the Ibrahim Cheruvu which runs right up till Taramati.

The panel members said that a 12-foot wall has been built along the nala. More than 15 feet of the nala has been encroached with just 10 feet left for the water to flow.

Madhulika Choudhary, a member of the committee, said, “On February 10, permission was given to the Vessella group to construct villas downstream of Ibrahim Cheruvu. Now,  a wall has been constructed along the nala which has led to felling of trees around it.”

The encroachment makes it difficult to control the frothing which occurs on the Ibrahim Cheruvu. “The lake froths on a daily basis due to industrial effluents. However, it has been under control because the froth flows downstream. If it is blocked the froth will spill out onto the road,” added Madhulika.

When members contacted the Vessella Group, the company executives said that they obtained permission from the irrigation department.
