Hyderabad: Technology turns knight in shining armour for cops

CCTV cameras helped detect 38 cases and digital forensics helped detect 80 cases.

Hyderabad: Technology played a key role in detecting as many as 182 cyber crime cases in 2018 under Rachakonda. CCTV cameras helped detect 38 cases and digital forensics helped detect 80 cases.  

Fingerprint technology, especially the newly inducted papillon technology enables us to recognise the partial fingerprints and helped nab 56 offenders. In one of the cases, it took the cops a record three hours to nab the culprit. Through facial recognition software, a total six missing cases were detected.

Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said, “As part of Nenu Saitham, 52,836 CCTVs were installed and as a part of community initiative 6,386 CCTVs were installed in Rachakonda commissionerate.”

In one of the murder cases, an unidentified body was found with its throat slit near Ankireddygudem in August. 

Rachakonda police commissioner  Mahesh Bhagwat said, “With the Barcode No. 008842843 of a whiskey bottle found at the crime scene, cops detected the shop which sold the bottle and checking the CCTV footage helped us identify the two who bought the bottle and nabbed them.
