Srinagar: The Army on Saturday said that an infiltration bid was foiled by it along the International Border (IB) with Pakistan – often referred to as Jammu-Sialkot border- and that one militant is believed to have been killed in its action as his body was seen being dragged by others.

The Nagrota (Jammu)-based 16 Corps of the Army, also known as the White Knight Corps, said that the incident took place in the Khor area of Akhnoor sector during the intervening night of December 22 and 23. It wrote on ‘X’, “Infiltration bid foiled in IB sector of #Khor, #Akhnoor. Suspected move of four terrorists seen through own surveillance devices on the night of 22/23 Dec 23. Effective fire brought down. Terrorists seen dragging one body back across the IB.”

The Army had last month said that over a dozen infiltration bids were made from across the J&K borders, mainly along the Line of Control (LoC), during the first ten months of the year, but all these were foiled by the security forces by engaging intruders in gun battles which led to their elimination or forced them to return to the PoJK.

Recently J&K’s DGP Rashmi Rajan Swain had on being asked at a media briefing if the incidence of infiltration from across the LoC and IB with Pakistan in J&K has increased in the recent past, said, “It may go up at some point and come down at the other.” He refused to delve further on the issue, asserting, “This is something which is not supposed to be discussed here or put in the public domain.”
