Hyderabad: Over 10,000 tap connections are listed as domestic but are being used for commercial purpose, the Water Board said. This is costing the board Rs 10 crore. The major violators are hostels and restaurants.
Water Board officials said a random survey in Malkajgiri showed that about 100 buildings had taken domestic supply connections, instead of commercial ones. “Multi-storey apartments did not take commercial connections which attract higher charges. We surveyed about 400 buildings and issued notices to voilators,” an official said. Officials said owners of commercial buildings have to pay the arrears or face action. More such surveys would be conducted, the official said.
