Keep sipping water at all times during summer
Doctors said people should keep sipping small amounts of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.
Hyderabad: With day temperatures ruling 5ºC above normal already, residents need to take many precautions to ward off heat-related issues. Drinking water is the best way to stay hydrated, but it is important not to guzzle lots of water at one go. Doctors said that this is a common mistake that many people make, of reaching out for water only when they are thirsty and then tanking up. Instead, doctors said, people should keep sipping on small amounts of water throughout the day.
Dr Srinivas Rao, general physician said, “Due to the excess heat and staying outdoors, going for long periods of time without drinking enough water is a recipe for disaster. Hence small amounts have been recommended from time to time.” With the heat truly on, doctors said those who have jobs that require them to be outdoor can reschedule their afternoon timings as the peak heat hours last from noon to 4 pm. Children who are into sports can be put on salt and sugar water during summer.
General physician Dr R.K. Reddy, said, “Children who are playing outdoors at schools or practising sports can be given fruit juice, butter milk or sweet lime juice as it will ensure that they are hydrated. Often we find that these children are coming with cases of severe dehydration in summers.”
