Kerala: Bank officers' stir on February 29
The inquiry that followed exposed a fraud of Rs 141 crore.
Thrissur: Some three lakh bank officers, who are members of All-India Bank Officers' Confederation, will conduct a nation-wide strike on February 29, Union Budget day, protesting against the decision of Dhanalaxmi Bank management to oust senior manager in Thrissur, Mr P.V. Mohanan.
Mr T. Narendran, convener of the ongoing protest of Dhanalaxmi Bank employees here, told mediapersons that the bank while terminating the service of Mr Mohanan in June 2015 had not mentioned any reason.
The only reason could be that he had brought to the notice of the CEO of the bank that some financial irregularities were happening in a branch of the bank in Mumbai. The inquiry that followed exposed a fraud of Rs 141 crore.
The clauses of service regulations of the bank mentioned in the order have not yet been invoked before by any bank against an officer. Normally, only after conducting an inquiry an officer is dismissed, he added.
“The management of the bank was not willing to hold any talks with the protesting employees. We are hopeful that after the nation-wide strike, the Central Labour Commission will take up the matter,” Mr Narendran said.
