President Pranab Mukherjee to open bicentenary fete of CMS College

A special stage will be erected for the function and seating for 3,000 people is being arranged.

Kottayam: President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the bicentenary celebrations of CMS College in Kottayam on February 26. The President will also  inaugurate a bicentenary block constructed at the college spending Rs 12 crore.

The first college established in the country back in 1816 was founded by John Munroe, the former Divan of Travancore. Benjamin Bailey was the first Principal of the College.

Principal Dr Roy Sam Daniel on Tuesday announced a slew of projects comprising the construction of an archive and museum costing Rs 22 crore as part of the bicentenary celebrations.

The President will reach Kottayam police parade ground by 2.15 pm and reach the college by 2.30 pm to inaugurate the celebrations.  A special stage will be erected for the function and seating for 3,000 people is being arranged.
