CHENNAI: Indifference of the officials towards woes of laymen seems never be obliterated. The unattended potholes that had been breaking the motorists’ spine for over a long period have seen an overnight patchwork. Thanks to Vice President Venkaiah Naidu’s visit to the city.
Every day, during the peak as well as mundane hours, one stretch of the Arcot Road near Vadapalani Junction would remain gridlocked, but not on Friday. The ‘swift’ civic officials had completed patchwork to close a bunch of potholes overnight near Green Park Hotel, where the Vice President participated in an event on Friday.
"The corporation officials have not attended the potholes for long periods. These potholes have been a longtime hazard to the motorists. But the officials acted swiftly and fixed the road immediately for the vice president’s visit” Inbarajan, a resident said.
During the visit by Deccan Chronicle, it had come to know that the officials patched the road to such an extent where vice president's vehicle take a U-turn. The remaining portions of the road have been left untouched.
The auto drivers of the area said that the road cut had done to conduct electricity department work.
“For the last 10 days the road cut has been there and the officials closed the road cut only for the VIP (Vice President), who went inside the Green Park Hotel,” the drivers said.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Corporation officials said that the patchwork would be continued and the work would be completed within a few days.
