Nellore: Panel constituted for CBIC land acquisition

Nellore: Revenue authorities, in a bid to expedite work on the first phase of  Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC), decided to form a committee to decide rates and negotiate with owners of patta lands to acquire land. Both the state and Central governments are keen on getting the work started at the earliest. Under the Phase I development of the CBIC, Krishnapatnam in AP, Ponneri in Tamil Nadu and Tumkur in Karnataka are planned to be covered.

Authorities realise that the conventional method of procuring land through advertisements is time consuming. There are  instances where the acquisition process halt if the land owner approaches the courts demanding higher rate of compensation. To overcome such situation, revenue authorities of Nellore district formed a committee at the instance of the Collector R. Muthyala Raju to procure lands for Nellore Airport after obtaining permission from government earlier.

The committee has successfully procured 1,070 acres after negotiations with farmers in a short span of time. The land was handed over to Bhogapuram International Airport Company Ltd, which is executing the Nellore Airport Project. District Collector R. Muthyala Raju said both the land owners and government would benefit because of the negotiations therefore they decided to form similar committee to procure land for CBIC too.

According to the collector, members in the committee include the joint collector, RDO, APIIC zonal manager and a member from finance department.
The committee will decide the cost of land. The acquisition will commence after securing approval from the state government. APIIC officials said the government has proposed to acquire 10,700 acres of land for CBIC within 50 km radius around  Krishnapatnam Port to facilitate the industries to use the port for imports and exports without spending much on transport.

Land located in three villages at Kota mandal and four villages in Chillakur mandal has been identified and the survey process in progress. Out of 10,700 acres, 1500 acres is under the possession of APIIC. The big task ahead for the revenue officials is to procure nearly 4000 acres of Patta land besides 5000 acres of government land assigned to several people in Kota and Chillakur mandals.
