Secunderabad Cantonment Board awaits land allocation to shift garbage station
Army accounts for nearly 30% of the waste collected from its establishments.
HYDERABAD: The ball is squarely in the Army establishment’s court regarding the shifting of the existing garbage transfer station from Mahatma Gandhi Community Hall in Trimulgherry. SCB authorities have written to the Local Military Authority to allot a vacant land for this purpose. SCB CEO Mr S.V.R. Chandrashekar and Brigadier Manish Upadhyay have also inspected a few sites, mostly A-1 lands, for the purpose.
The SCB top brass has also written to the military and are awaiting response. Health and sanitation staff in the SCB collect over 100 metric tonnes of waste daily from the eight wards. Of this, the army accounts for nearly 30 percentage of the waste, collected from its various establishments, offices and residential colonies.
“We want the army to give 5 to 10 acres of land ideally for this purpose. This garbage point is as important to army as the SCB because it is the cantonment that is rendering services to the former as well. We are hoping for a positive response on two or three sites okayed,” an official said. The present garbage shifting station is in the middle of residential colonies. People have been fighting relentlessly with cantonment administration to relocate the garbage station.
