Hyderabad: A patient who was the victim of medical negligence was paid by the doctor on Saturday.
On Saturday, Telangana Consumer Affairs secretary Akun Sabharwal handed over a cheque of Rs 5.5 lakh to Ms Maria Saba of Hyderabad.
Ms Saba had approached a well-known hospital in December 2017 when she became pregnant and went for consultation every month. On September 27, 2018, she was admitted for delivery. During childbirth, she suffered profuse bleeding due to the negligence of the doctor and the hospital staff. They did not disclose their mistake to hide negligence. The doctor suggested that Ms Saba be taken to another hospital.
The family took Ms Saba to Bristlecone Hospital, Barkatpura, where she was treated and discharged with instructions to undertake complete rest for six months.
Ms Saba and her husband approached the Telangana Consumer Information and Redressal Centre in November stating that she had spent more than Rs 3 lakh due to the negligence of the doctor and hospital staff. The centre issued notice to the doctor in December. After discussions, they agreed to pay Ms Saba Rs 5.50 lakh.
