Khammam: Women walk for 2 km to get water
Besides, they have to wait for nearly half an hour for their turn to collect water
Khammam: Women at Sitaramapuram, a village of 3,000 people in Khammam district’s Pinapaka mandal, walk two km for a pitcher of water from a well and the Pedavagu rivulet. Women spend 45 minutes walking 4 km to fetch the water and get back home. Besides, they have to wait for nearly half an hour for their turn to collect water. Their hope: The upcoming Bhadradri power plant. Land at the village has been acquired for the power plant, and officials have promised the residents drinking water from the Godavari.
Work on the plant, however, has been held up over environmental concerns. M. Narasimha Rao, a resident of Sitaramapuram said, “This is a curse and some of the families are leaving for other habitations because of the problem.”
