Ultrasound reveals cloth, sponge stuck in woman's abdomen after surgery

Agra: Eight units of HIV infected blood, a piece of cloth and sponge in the abdomen- that's what 25-year-old Kamlesh was bargaining for when she decided to get a caesarean section in a major nursing home in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh.
According to a report, Kamlesh, who came for childbirth in the hospital on 13 December, delivered a stillborn child. Following high blood loss during the procedure, she was transfused with 8 units of blood. But the family was not informed about its source.
There was no improvement in her condition. Her family took her to the Agra government hospital, where the doctors found out that she has HIV positive blood, and has a lump in her stomach.
“She has to undergo a major surgery. When doctors operated, they found a towel and sponge in her abdomen. She died on March 17. What will I do without my wife? My future is bleak,” Kamlesh’s husband Prem Kishore said. The family spent around Rs 2 lakh on her treatment by mortgaging three bigah land, Prem added.
An FIR has been registered regarding the matter.
