Vidya Volunteers will work till teacher selection

About 16,000 Vidya Volunteers are appointed on an ad-hoc basis every academic year and are paid Rs 12,000 per month.

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the government to continue the services of Vidya Volunteers till such time that regular teachers are appointed. It directed the government to assess the requirement of Vidya Volunteers for 2019-20 and engage them.

Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili gave the order while disposing of a batch of writ petitions filed by Mr J. Bhiksham of Khammam and other Vidya Volunteers seeking to stop the current practice of annual termination and fresh engagement. They wanted their services renewed till regular teachers are appointed.

About 16,000 Vidya Volunteers are appointed on an ad-hoc basis every academic year and are paid Rs 12,000 per month.

The court said the petitioners are entitled to be continued without being subject to further selections and were are not to be replaced by another temporary employee.
