Kochi: All ten families in a residential apartment complex in Fort Kochi have been placed under home quarantine after one of the residents, who recently returned from Dubai, tested positive for the coronavirus Covid-19.

The 43 members of these 10 families had to be isolated as the Dubai returnee allegedly interacted with other residents of the apartment and used common facilities like the elevator even while he was under home quarantine.

The 61-year-old resident returned from Dubai on March 16. He was asymptomatic when he arrived but later developed symptoms like difficulty in breathing. The person was shifted to the Ernakulam Government Medical College where his swab samples tested positive.

The health authorities immediately put all the 43 people in the apartment complex under home quarantine.

“The tehsildar has instructed us to provide food and beverages to the quarantined families. We deliver essential items and cleaning materials near the gate of apartment complex from where they collect it. We are in constant contact with the families and will provide all necessary support to them,” said Jayanti Premnath, the local councillor.
