Durgam Cheruvu to get four-lane cycling track
An exclusive track will also be constructed around the lake too.
Hyderabad: Administrative sanction was accorded on Saturday to build a Rs 182-crore four-lane cycling-cum-walking track from Jubilee Hills Road No 45 to Durgam Cheruvu. This includes the long pending suspension bridge at the lake . An exclusive track will also be constructed around the lake too.
Another Rs 20 crore has been sanctioned for an amphitheater near the lake . The government is asking corporates as part of their social responsibility initiatives to take up lake cleaning.
Minister Mr K.T. Rama Rao, while inspecting the lake on Saturday along with HMDA and traffic officials said, “The cycling track will be four lanes, from road number 45 to the lake; the entire water body will be beautified and the works for the suspension bridge will begin at the earliest; an administrative sanction of Rs 184 crore is approved. The four-lane cycling track will be like foreign countries and another will be constructed around the lake. Along with the amphitheater, the budget will be used for a boating facility. Few corporates have come forward to clean the lake as part of their social responsibility. Throughout the beautification, no damage will be caused to the lake or the heritage rocks around it.”
Also on Saturday, the minister reviewed the work progress of the Strategic Road Development Plan. The main reason for the multi-crore project being delayed is land acquisition .
GHMC authorities are waiting for approval from private parties to acquire lands. Officials have also completed soil tests in many areas. Mr Rama Rao asked the corporation to set up a project implementation wing to monitor the project on a day to day basis and if needed to appoint private consultants too.
The state government is exploring various loan options to kick start the project. Meanwhile the L&T, which was objecting to an underpass at Mind Space junction assuming that it would obstruct the Metro alignment, has finally given its nod for it. The works for this will begin from Monday. With this the massive traffic jams at Mind Space will reduce to a large extent.Meanwhile, the HMWS&SB has been awarded by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) for its outstanding contribution to the Urban Infrastructure sector.
