Illegal hoardings deface Hyderabad's Old City
We have removed a lot of illegal hoardings and are also in the process of removing more, says GHMC.
Hyderabad: Illegal hoardings continue to deface Hyderabad’s Old City. This is despite a warning by municipal and urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao against continued setting up of illegal hoardings in the capital.
For instance, two major hoardings — near Nayapul and Darulshifa — were put up by a political party announcing plans for its rallies, events and programmes, noted Md. Akram, an activist.
“The hoardings are illegal and the GHMC should remove them. Ministers blabber about making the Old City a better place, but neither they nor the GHMC officials are serious about this,” Mr Akram said.
Bhavani Singh, a resident of Gowliguda, said, “In the Old City, we see politicians and their supporters openly flouting rules. Traffic junctions are their favourite spots, as the hoardings and posters there unfailingly catch the attention of motorists. While the government keeps exhorting people against such actions, many are violating the rules and putting up more posters and hoardings. True, the GHMC can’t keep a close watch on each and every lane, but once they notice it, strict action should be taken against those who install hoardings illegally.”
Shakir Ahmed, another resident, said, “The GHMC or the government should come up with an effective system to check illegal hoardings. It should learn from cities like Bangalore and Delhi.”
GHMC zonal commissioner S. Srinivas Reddy said, “We have removed a lot of illegal hoardings and are also in the process of removing more.”
