Take India to towering heights, says Pranab Mukherjee
“The Lawrence School, Lovedale, with its rich past of 159 years has given you a vast lineage of traditions and values, which serve as your roots''.
Ooty: President Pranab Mukherjee has appealed to the youth to take India to towering heights in the global arena.
As per the speech copy of President Pranab released through I&PRO on Tuesday evening, Mr Pranab, who addressed the gathering at the 159th founder’s day celebrations at the Lawrence School at Lovedale near here, noted that “ My experience tells me that it is the youth of a nation, any nation, which can bring about a change in its fortunes. My generation and the generation that followed have set the wheel of fortune spinning and it is for you youngsters to take it to its logical conclusion. So that when the world speaks of India, it does not do so only in terms of a resplendent past, but as a present to reckon with and a future to look forward to”.
“The Lawrence School, Lovedale, with its rich past of 159 years has given you a vast lineage of traditions and values, which serve as your roots. Building on that robust foundation, you, young children have to take your school and along with that, the society on the whole to a new zenith of progress and development” he appealed.
“You, children are the fortunate recipients of a solid education, which as I can observe is a confluence of both academic and non-academic learning. This learning augmented by the independence that a boarding school imbibes in you is a rare gift. Take this gift of learning and spread it all around you, so that every single person who comes in contact with you too can reap its benefits”, he said.
“For though in a boarding school, the school plays a vital part in grooming the students, parental support and encouragement is absolutely integral to their well-being. From what I gather, old Lawrencians - your alumni, have scaled the pinnacle of success in their chosen careers.
Let them be your inspiration and let not this inspiration be limited by capitalist and materialistic goals alone, but include service as well,” Pranab concluded.
