Doctors had sent Bandaru Dattatreya home
Doctors who examined him said there was no need for panic but admitted him in the hospital.
Hyderabad: Former union minister BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya’s only son Vaishnav died of a massive heart attack in the early hours of Wednesday.
Doctors who examined him said there was no need for panic but admitted him in the hospital.
Mr Dattatreya returned to his house by 11.30 pm. At about 12.30 am, Mr Dattatreya received a call from the hospital informing him that his son’s condition had turned serious. Vaishnav had died by the time Mr Dattatreya reached the hospital.
A medical bulletin issued by the Guru Nanak Care Hospitals stated, “He (Vaishnav) had come in a collapsed condition with no pulse and blood pressure recordable at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday. There was no cardiac activity seen. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation as per protocol was started immediately and continued for 2 hours.”
“Even temporary pacemaker insertion was done as the patient was very young. Endotracheal tube ventilation was given. In spite of aggressive efforts (the) patient could not be revived, hence declared dead at 12.30 am on Wednesday. Cause of death was attributed to sudden cardiac arrest," the statement said.
Asked about the discrepancy in the two versions — Mr Dattatreya being sent away saying his son was fine, and the hospital later saying Vaishav had come in a “collapsed condition” — sources said that Mr Dattatreya was a heart patient himself, and it was feared that he would not be able to take the news of the tragedy.
Sources said some of his family members and BJP leaders requested the hospital not to break the news to Mr Dattatreya immediately. “For that reason, Mr Dattatreya was sent back home and the death announced later.”
Vaishnav was an MBBS student at the Medicity Medical College in Hyderabad and had earlier studied at the Sri Chaitanya Junior College and Vidyaranya High School.
Vaishnav’s last rites were peformed on Wednesday in city which was attended by large number of leaders from all parties, BJP leaders, cadre, family members and his friends.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Chief Ministers K. Chandrasekhar Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu, besides scores of leaders from all parties and a large number of people mourned the death of Vaishnav.
