Airline, part-owned by Etihad Airways, said last month it would inject funds and cut costs in excess of $278 million over two years to try to stem losses.

Hyderabad: A message being widely circulated on social media platforms saying that Jet Airways is giving away two free flight tickets to celebrate its silver jubilee has been called a fraud.

This message reads: “Jetairways Airline is giving 2 Free Tickets to everyone, to celebrate their 25th Anniversary, Click here to Get yours: http://www.jetaýrways.com/tickets (sic)”.

On clicking on the link, the user is redirected to http://www.xn--jetarways-ypb.com/ page. This is a fake message.

Jet Airways issued a clarification later stating: “There’s a fake link being circulated regarding ticket giveaways for our 25th anniversary. This is not an official contest/giveaway and we advise caution. Genuine contests and giveaways are hosted only on our verified social media accounts, indicated with a blue tick (sic).”

A fake message generally generally has a difficult-to-notice error, which makes the message look similar to the original website. A closer look at the fake offer shows that the letter “i” is modified in the URL. Additionally, the secure websites use https instead of http.
