Hyderabad: Ministers’ family members lose big
Labour minister Ch. Malla Reddy’s son-in-law Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, again a fresh face, lost to TPCC working president A Revanth Reddy.
Hyderabad: Family members of two Cabinet ministers and the CM lost in the April 11 elections. Cabinet minister T. Srinivas Yadav’s son Sai Kiran Yadav lost against the three-time BJP MLA G. Kishan Reddy from the Secunderabad LS seat.
Labour minister Ch. Malla Reddy’s son-in-law Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, again a fresh face, lost to TPCC working president A Revanth Reddy.
The real shocker, however, was the defeat of Ms K. Kavitha, the daughter of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, from Nizamabad.
Mr Kishan Reddy, a three-time MLA who lost in the December elections, won with a margin of over 51,000 votes against Mr Sai Kiran Yadav, a first-timer.
However, a change in party preference was observed in Malkajgiri. In 2014, voters elected Mr Ch. Malla Reddy, who fought on a TD ticket but later defected to the TRS and is a Cabinet minister in the TRS government. In 2019, the constituency chose Revanth Reddy.
It may also be noted that the TPCC working president was once a TD MLA. Ironically, the constituency that elected Mr Malla Reddy did not elect his son-in-law Rajashekar Reddy, who fought on a TRS ticket.
The common string between them is that both contested for the state elections but lost.
