Vijayawada: In a landslide of remarkable proportions, YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy steamrolled all Opposition to storm to power in Andhra Pradesh. He scripted history by winning 150 out of the 175 Assembly seats and 23 of 25 parliamentary seats, in the process even outdoing the predictions made by exit polls. While the TD fell to a historic low, the BJP could not get a single seat.

The YSRC got 150 seats, the TD got 24, the Jana Sena got 1 while the Congress and the bjp got 0.

TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu later in the evening handed over his resignation letter to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, who accepted it and asked him to continue till a new government was formed.

Mr Naidu congratulated Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. YSRC chief’s padayatra, the strong anti-incumbency sentiment, and his focused campaign on publicising his Navaratnas — nine promises — created the huge Jagan wave. The TD campaign was centred around conspiracy theories and ‘Andhra pride’. In 2014, the YSRC had lost by a narrow 1.6-vote margin.

This time, it is expected that the YSRC will land up with more than 50 per cent of margin.
