Nellore: Isro completed a double century by launching 29 foreign satellites on the workhorse PSLV from the spaceport at Sriharikota on Friday. Also riding on the rocket was a 712-kg Cartosat-2 that will be used for military purposes.
Isro started launching foreign satellites in 1999, and had put 180 in space so far — including 104 in one mission in February. Friday’s launch of 29 satellites took the number to 209.
About 16 minutes into the flight, the PSLV ejected Cartosat into space 510 km above the earth. It was followed by NIUSAT, built by students from TN’s Noorul Islam University, and the 29 foreign satellites. The mission was over in about 23 minutes.
