CHENNAI: Four more cities from Tamil Nadu — Tirupur, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tiruchy — on Friday piped several other cities across the country to make it to the fourth list of towns that would be developed as “Smart Cities” with world-class infrastructure and public amenities under the ambitious Phase-I project.

Tirupur got the 17th place in the all-India rankings, while Tirunelveli emerged 23rd, Thoothukudi (24) and Tiruchi (25). With this, the number of cities that would get the “Smart City” tag in Tamil Nadu has risen to 10. Other cities that have qualified to be smartcities in Tamil Nadu are Chennai, Coimbatore, Vellore, Madurai, Thanjavur and Salem.
