HMDA's decision on flood lights on ORR to cost high
The contract value of the project has increased to Rs 30.49 crore from Rs 29.99 crore in this project.
Hyderabad: The decision of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to replace the 1KW metal halide luminaries with high voltage LEDs at various junctions and circles on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will cost Rs 56 lakh more.
The contract value of the project has increased to Rs 30.49 crore from Rs 29.99 crore in this project. HMDA is to begin commissioning illumination of the ORR in Hyderabad for the main carriageway, interchanges, junctions, service roads and underpass areas, from Gachibowli to Shamshabad.
When HMDA had prepared the tender for lighting the AP Police Academy junction and the Nanakramguda and Narsingi junctions with 1KW metal halide luminaries on 30 metre high-masts, LED high-mast lights were not available in the Indian market. But now, 500 watt LED high-mast lights manufactured abroad are being marketed in India.
HMDS has proposed that Philips make 480 watts LED high-mast luminaries for junction lighting instead of 1KW metal halide luminaries, which will save 50 per cent energy.
HMDA has installed high-mast lighting at Gachibowli junction, Nanakramguda junction, and APPA junction and six high-masts at Nanakramguda toll plaza, and eight at Shamshabad junction. For lighting of these junctions approximately 172 480 watt luminaries with are required. For lighting 24.3 km of the main carriageway, the quantity of cable increased from 8 km to 60 km because the amount was not correctly estimated at the time of preparing tenders.
HMDA officials said that due to usage of dimming option whenever the voltage drops increased more than 6 per cent a second cable was laid for reliable operation of the main carriageway.
Due to the increase in the quantity of cable required and usage of flood lights, the contract period will be increased for completion and the contract amount also increased by Rs 55 lakh more.
