Hyderabad: Man tries to end life after torture

Umender's relatives said he had borrowed Rs 2,000 from his neighbour Narasimha.

Hyderabad: A youth attempted to commit suicide after he was allegedly tortured by the police at Thappachabutra. The youth, P. Umender, who owed Rs 2,000 to a person, was summoned to the police station and beaten by an SI. Umender came home and drank poison.

Umender's relatives said he had borrowed Rs 2,000 from his neighbour Narasimha. As he could not return the money on time Narasimha and his father Anjaiah came to Umender’s house and beat him up.

Later, they went to the police station and influenced a sub inspector, who called Umender to the police station. “At the station they beat him up and asked him to come back to the station again. Fearing more torture he drank poison at home,” said one of his relatives. Umender is now undergoing treatment at the Osmania General Hospital.
