Hyderabad: 2 dairies dirty lake, penalised

Officials cracked down on Quthbullapur meat and chicken shops who were selling unstamped meat and imposed Rs 9,000 fines.

Hyderabad: Veterinary officials have intensified their crackdown in RK Puram after the police Special Operation Team found illegal piggery units making oil from pig waste on Saturday. The department found two dairy units operating in unhygienic conditions which were dumping cow dung and urine into the RK Puram lake. 

They were penalised Rs 8,000 each. The Pollution Control Board had found animal waste as one of the major reasons that caused the lake frothing this year.

Officials inspected pigrearing units. One person was arrested under the GHMC Act for running a shop without licence and carrying out the business in a residential area.

 “There are families who have been rearing pigs for generations. They would have to shift out,” said Mr Srinivas Reddy, GHMC North Zone veterinary officer, North Zone.
