Kakinada: Nearly 15 camera equipped drones and nearly 6,000 police personnel, about 500 of them with body worn cameras, have been deplouyed to the padayatra to be taken up by Kapunadu leader Mudragada Padmanabham from Kirlampudi to Amaravati from July 26.

Additional police personnel have been deployed all over the district to foil the padayatra. Teams have been posted to check every vehicle and person entering the area from Prathipadu to Kirlampudi. The police are allowing only those with valid Aadhaar cards or any other ID card.

These restrictions are resulting in traffic jams. A passenger said the police stopped a bus and asked if they belonged to Kapu community. The police asked them to alight if they were planning to join the agitation.

Police has not given permission for the padayatra which Mr Padmanabham intends to undertake to press for the demand to include the Kapu community in the list of Backward Classes and provide reservations. Mr Padmanabham insists that this was a promise made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during the 2014 elections.
