Kerala High Court asks NHAI to correct drawbacks
The HC accepted the report and has asked the NHAI to take immediate action to fix all the issues regarding safety.
THRISSUR: Kerala High Court has termed as ‘alarming’ the issues regarding the works conducted by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and its sub-contractors on the six-lane toll highway between Mannuthy and Vadakkenchery without keeping in place proper safety measures and asked the police in Thrissur and Palakkad to take corrective actions in co-ordination with NHAI immediately.
The court said in a recent order that all the issues related to the road safety such as proper fencing, barricades, lack of proper drainage slabs and streetlights and water-logging need to be addressed without delay.
The advocate commissioner deputed by the court had inspected the 29.6-km stretch in May on the complaint of DCC secretary Shaji J. Kodankandath and had found safety issues and technical faults with regard to alignment and lack of proper underpasses/overhead pedestrian bridges among others.
The HC accepted the report and has asked the NHAI to take immediate action to fix all the issues regarding safety.
“The other issue mentioned in my complaint was the pathetic condition of the road from the Ayappa Temple in Kuthiran Climb till Irumbupalam on the NH,” Mr Shaji said. “A vehicle now takes 30 to 45 minutes to pass through the Kuthiran climb due to the poor condition of roads.”
He said station house officers of Mannuthy, Pattikkad and Vadakkenchery polic stations along with the district police chiefs in Palakkad and Thrissur had been handed over the court order in light of the HC order asking them to take corrective action.
