This IT firm is in search of bookworms
Sienti encourages staff to read and prefers book-lovers for jobs.
Kozhikode: While many blame hectic work schedule for not reading much, it is not the case with the staff of Kochi-based Sienti Solutions.
Here, the IT firm gives them time to read during office hours and give preference to bookworms in recruitment under one condition-they need to write a review about the book they read. It also gives them an incentive for the best review each month.
The company has a library and space exclusively for reading. Apart from taking books from there, they can also demand the book of their choice for the company to buy.
One of its directors, Munna Panicker, says the innovative idea to promote reading habit among staff is getting a good response.
“In an IT company, staff need to work for hours glued to the computer monitor. After an eight hour work, obviously, they won’t be in a position to read something serious. Naturally, they will get bored with that kind of work nature, and we thought reading during working hours would help them get some meaningful relaxation,” he told DC. The company in their recent recruitment advertisement has also added being ‘bookworm’ as a qualification. Sreejith Sudhakar, Prajith Prakashan and Jinu Thomas Lukose are other directors.
