Mysuru: Minister K.J. George who is now in charge of large and medium scale industries, on Monday visited the Badanaguppe and Kellamballi Industrial Corridor in Chamarajnagar district and during a meeting with officials, said measures would be taken to attract investors to the corridor.

He said, “Basic infrastructure facilities including water and electricity are already in place, and the industries can start functioning. We are committed to the setting up industries which will not adversely affect the environment. There is good scope for setting up a food park here and I intend to discuss this with the CM. The development of an industrial corridor in the region will create employment opportunities.”

On whether it was only a courtesy visit, he said,“ Since no industries have been set up yet, I inspected the area to assess basic infrastructure facilities.” Meanwhile Chamarajnagar DC B.B. Cauvery when contacted said, “Existing infrastructure facilities are enough for industries to begin operations. Measures are also been taken to  draw 25 MLD of water from Kabini near Kaulande in Nanjangud taluk. Also the KEB is setting up a 66/11KV substation worth Rs 40 crores in 12 acres of land and it will be completed in six months. Local investors and investors from Tirpur who were present in the meeting on Monday have shown interest,” she said.

When a road show was held at Coimbatore in 2015, as many as 300 investors had expressed interest to invest 12,000 crores in the area. As many as 17 companies were allotted land, and 4 companies had even signed MoUs.  When asked about this, she said, “Those are under process.”

Former CM Mr Siddaramaiah had laid the foundation for Badanaguppe and Kellamballi Industrial Corridor spread over 1600 acres in Chamarajnagar in June 2015, when he was CM.
