The Union government has informed the Madras high court that in view of the interpretation Life sentence means entire life of a person by the Supreme Court, the two accused cannot seek relief of early release.

Madurai: The Madurai bench of the Madras High court on Wednesday disposed off a petition filed against Deputy CM O. Panneerselvam's wife, Vijayalakshmi, after it was informed to the court that 18 cents of land along with the controversial well was gifted to Lakshmipuram village panchayat.

While a farmer, A. Rengasamy from Lakshmipuram village had filed a PIL, alleging irregularities in power connection given to the land, the Theni district collector, N. Venkatachalam in his report, during the last hearing, said there were no such violations.

The court had then asked Vijayalakshmi to file her response. When the case came up for hearing today, her counsel informed the court of the ‘gift deed’ executed vis-a-vis the land and the well on August 21 to the village at the Periyakulam registration office.  Recording the same, the court disposed off the petition.
