Chennai: Student organizations including the Students Federation of India (SFI) organised protests against the denial of Neet exemption by the Central government on Wednesday here.

V.Mariappan, state president of SFI, said, “The state and Central governments have betrayed the state board students. After assuring that the Central government would support the state on Neet ordinance, they backtracked.”

“Last year, they have given exemption citing that 98 per cent students are studying in the different syllabus. Still, the syllabus was not changed,” he pointed out.

Medical students conducted human chain protest outside the Madras Medical College. State Platform for Common Syllabus System (SPCSS) has asked for resignations of union minister Nirmala Sitharaman and state health minister Vijaya Bhaskar for betraying the parents and students.

“They have raised the false hopes among the parents and students. It has created a lot of stress and confusion,” said P.B. Prince Gajendrababu, general secretary of SPCSS.
