Hyderabad: The Wakf Board has begun conducting an inquiry into the “missing” fixed deposit receipts of the Anees Ul Ghurba which collectively account for over Rs 2 crore. According to officials, the money was deposited at nearly 10 banks in the city a few years ago.
Board chairman Mohammed Saleem said, “The deposits were made by the board officials a few years ago. Files pertaining to the fixed deposits are missing and the board officials do not know how much interest is meant to have been accumulated on the principal amount by now.”
Anees Ul Ghurba is a century-old orphanage located at Nampally. Its operation falls under the purview of the Wakf Board. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao recently laid the foundation stone for the construction of a multi-storied complex to house the orphanage.
Mr Saleem said that if the files were not located within a week, a police complaint would be filed. “The money belongs to the orphanage, and no one should be allowed to swindle the orphanage out of it. Action will also be initiated against officials who have shown negligence in the safeguarding of the files,” he said.
