Income tax investigators raided as many as 35 premises belonging to 7 finance firms in Salem, Karur and Tirupur since Thursday night, I-T sources said here on Friday.

Bengaluru: The Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation), Karnataka & Goa on Monday raided the premises of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s chartered accountant H.B. Sunil in the city.

Official sources denied media reports that the Income Tax raids at Sunil’s office had to do with Mr Kumaraswamy and said that the chartered accountant’s premises were searched on Tuesday as part of the I-T department’s “ongoing” search and seizure operations at a multinational property developer in Bengaluru.

“The I-T raid at Sunil’s office is in connection with the ongoing operations at the multinational company (property developer) group, which has 45 premises in India out of which 35 are in Bengaluru. The group has its premises in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad as well.

It is a coincidence that Sunil is the CA of Mr Kumaraswamy. The raids have nothing to do with the Chief Minister. There’s no politics behind the tax operations,” sources told Deccan Chronicle. There is no further information on the nature and extent seizure at Sunil’s premises.
