Earthquake in Bay of Bengal creates panic in Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam: An earthquake in the Bay of Bengal measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale has created panic among the people of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
The panic was the result of the circulation of the posts on `tremors' by the users of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp.
The denizens including the office goers, students of the state, particularly at the coastal areas like Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Vizianagaram, and East Godavari took to social media for inquiring about any untoward incidents and impact of the earthquake.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Amaravati Centre director S.Stella said "No tremors have been reported in the state due to the earthquake in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, but people in Chennai have felt it."
Stella further said that there will be no tsunami warning too as the intensity of the earthquake was `rather strong.'
Stella further said that the earthquake occurred at 12.36 pm on Tuesday at 10km depth in the sea, near 296kms from the Kakinada coast. It was also close to the Nellore coast.
