Devotee submits Rs 100 crore cheque to Simhachalam Lord
The cheque of a corporate bank has been signed by one Boddepalli Radhakrishna
Visakhapatnam: Officials of Simhachalam Devasthanam got a surprise when they found a Rs 100 crore cheque donated to the temple during counting of hundi collections on Wednesday.
The cheque of a corporate bank has been signed by one Boddepalli Radhakrishna. Counting officials took the cheque to temple executive officer (EO) Trinadha Rao.
“The amount in figures and words is correct. But there is a small correction. We will be damn lucky if the amount is cashed,” Trinadha Rao observed.
He said the cheque has been sent to the temple’s bank branch for collection.
Temple sources said verification of the devotee’s bank account revealed that Radhakrishna had only Rs 22 in his account. His address could not be obtained.
Simhachalam EO said: “This is nothing new for the temple. In the past too, cheques with fancy amounts have been dropped into the hundi by devotees.”
Asked whether the temple files a cheque bounce case in such matters, a temple official said Simhachalam administration ignores such cases, as they are given as donations.
