THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of growing concern about global warming, the city corporation is joining hands with Indus Cycle Embassy to promote cycling among schoolchildren.

The group will get their bicycles refurbished and encourage pedalling to a healthy lifestyle and a clean environment.

The formal launch of the ongoing initiative will be held at Manacaud Government Girls Higher Secondary School on October 14.

The rollout of a "cycle circuit" from Manaveeyam Road to Mascot Hotel and from Museum to Kowdiar will follow.

"Anyone can join the bicycle brigade," said Prakash P. Gopinath of the Indus Bicycle Embassy.

"This is not only for the students but also for anyone who has a passion for cycling."

These circuits will take place once a week, from six to eight in the morning and replicated if they succeed.

The civic body also plans cycle clubs to send the message across.
