Telangana State Election Commission Prepares for Upcoming Assembly Election
Over 15 lakh new voters have been enrolled, 3.38 lakh voters removed from the electoral list
HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Election Commission is all set to conduct the Assembly elections on schedule. Stating that the Election Commission officials would work with 20 law enforcement agencies, including Central agencies, to conduct the polls, Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj said on Saturday that a team of the Central Election Commission would visit Hyderabad in the first week of October and conduct meetings with all political parties and top officials, including the DGP and the Chief Secretary.
Speaking after inaugurating the media centre at BRK Bhavan on Saturday, Vikas Raj said over 15 lakh new voters have been enrolled in the state from various sections, including youth. From January till date, 3.38 lakh voters have been removed from the electoral list, he said.
"We received 15 lakh applications seeking modification of details as a number of voters shifted from one location to another. We will rectify all details and release the enrollment list. A lot of effort has been put into accepting applications and initiating the electoral process in the state. We will resolve all complaints, including ones from political parties, at the earliest,” he said.
The CEO reiterated that electoral officers would accept applications for enrolment of voters until the day of filing nominations. The CEO requested eligible persons to enrol online.
A Special Summary Revision (SSR) was published in all 119 Assembly Constituencies. As per the draft, the total number of voters in Telangana state stood at 3,06, 42,333, with 1,53,73,066 male voters, 1,52, 51,797 female voters and 2,133 voters of the third gender.
