Titli-hit force MP to leave village
The locals accused the MP of finding time to tour the cyclone-affected villages ten days after the devastation.
Visakhapatnam: People affected by Cyclone Titli on Tuesday stopped the convoy of Srikakulam MP Rammohan Naidu and asked him to leave their village, giving his critics a chance to corner him.
Mr Rammohan Naidu had visited Panaganiputtuga village of Kaviti mandal to empathise with the cyclone affected but had to turn back, unable to withstand the anger of the villagers.
The locals accused the MP of finding time to tour the cyclone-affected villages ten days after the devastation. According to the villagers, they have been eagerly awaiting for some help as there has been no supply of drinking water and electricity in the region. Though the CM announced that normalcy would be restored within two days, there have been no proper relief measures till date, the locals said.
Under such circumstances, Mr Rammohan Naidu visited the village with empty hands only to assure help.
Enraged by this, villagers shouted at him to go back. Meanwhile, a video of the embarrassed leader leaving the village went viral on social media.
Political critics and social activists lauded the action of villagers against the leader. Meanwhile, the state government has failed to restore electricity in some areas. Locals say that it has not initiated a survey to estimate the damages incurred due to the disaster. Essential commodities like milk are also not available during the festival days.
Earlier, the Chief Minister had camped in the region for days together to ensure that all help reached the people affected by Cyclone Titli.
