Cadres are restrained from erecting banners: AIADMK
Public will face no difficulty, party informs HC.
Chennai: The AIADMK party has informed the Madras high court that it had restrained its party cadres from in any manner erecting cut outs, flex boards, banners, which would cause difficulty of any nature to the general public.
J.C.D.Prabhakar, Organising Secretary, News Bureau Co-ordinator and Minorities Welfare Wing Deputy Secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam filed an affidavit to this effect on behalf of the party and also on behalf of its leaders, before a division bench comprising Justices M.Sathyanarayanan and N.Seshasayee when the contempt petition filed by social activist Traffic Ramaswamy and suo motu taken up proceedings on the death of techie Subhasri came up for hearing on Wednesday.
In his affidavit, Prabhakar submitted that it is the solemn statement of our political party that it is against erection of banners of any nature that would cause hindrance in any manner to the general public and as such, they are against the display of such banners as well. “Our political party stands by the commitment and had restrained its party cadres from in any manner erecting cut outs, flex boards, banners, which would cause difficulty of any nature to the general public.
In fact, our leaders had also called upon the cadres to strictly follow the direction and had also asked them not to put up any banners, cut outs, flex boards etc., even though it may be without fully understanding the consequences. Our political party affirms the above position before this court and shall ensure that its cadres also strictly adhere to the joint statement made by the leaders of our political party”, he added.
When suo motu proceedings on the death of Subhasri on the road due to an AIADMK banner falling on her and a tanker lorry running behind her ran over her on September 12 at Pallikaranai, taken up for hearing, Additional advocate general C.Emmilias filed the status reports of Additional Commissioners of Police, Traffic and Law and Order respectively.
He said so far as the illegal erection of digital banner was concerned, the investigation was over and final report has been filed. With regard to the accident, investigation was over and final report has been yet to be filed and it will be filed shortly since the bail petitions filed by the accused Jayagopal and his brother-in-law were pending, he added.
Recording the affidavit filed by the AIADMK party and the status report filed by the Additional Commissioners of Police, the bench posted to November 22, further hearing of the case.
Meanwhile, the bench also ordered notice to the authorities on a petition filed by R.Ravi, the father of the deceased Subhasri, seeking Rs 1crore as
compensation and a Special Investigation Team probe against those who were directly and indirectly responsible for the death of his daughter. He also sought a direction to the state government to take necessary steps to enact a Special Act with maximum punishment to curb the menace of erecting unauthorized /illegal banners.
