Hyderabad: The Medical Council of India has asked all college principals to collect data of their teaching employees and verify it via Aadhaar cards and submit all the details to the council. Professors and faculty members need to be registered using the Online Faculty Attendance Monitoring System, the MCI said.

The MCI has taken up these steps following complaints of ghost faculty in private and government colleges. A senior MCI member on condition of anonymity explained, “There is a severe shortage of professors for anatomy, physiology, general medicine and anaesthesia. It has been found that the professors are marked present when there is no professor. Hence this biometric facility is being organised.”

The Union health ministry has asked the MCI for list of faculty from all colleges. Dr G. Srinivas, president of Telangana Junior Doctors Association said, “This system will help students as most of them are managing with the subjects where there are temporary professors. It is very difficult for students who have to opt for extra classes or even take up online tuitions to understand their subjects.”
