Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s parched Cauvery has fair chances of getting replenished with the surplus water from neighbouring Andhra’s Godavari river if the plan by the BJP government at the Centre gets underway with the nod of Chief Ministers of four states. Realising the plight of states like TN, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Rajasthan deprived of the precious resources due to insufficient rains, Union shipping minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that his government initiated proposals aimed at ensuring a solution for TN’s water requirements.

Mr Nitin, on Thursday, informed that the Centre has taken up interlinking of rivers in “right earnest” and he would convene a meeting of CMs of four States — TN, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, and make a plan to transfer the surplus water of Godavari to the Cauvery.
