Chennai: A. Arun Prasanna of PFCI told Deccan Chronicle, “Now starts a long legal battle. We hope justice prevails.” Referring to the ambiguity in the whole episode, he pointed out,” Why has the corporation destroyed the meat when the investigation is still on? And the disposal was not done scientifically.”

“Consigner did not have any sender or receiver details. It had only one Ganesh mentioned on it. And the meat did not have the mandatory stamp of pre & post check by a Vet at a slaughterhouse, which only confirms the suspicion that it's some illegal meat - meat not certified by the FSSAI. “

Pointing to the doubts raised by the seizure, the animal enthusiast explains, “To begin with, when it is said to be goat meat, why was it writtenas fish meat? The meatseized is pale as against pinkish red colour of goat meat. Other characteristics of goat meat include straight, longer legs, shorter tails, heavier flesh, heavily visible fat content, heavier under belly, which are contrary to what have been seized on Friday. And the head and the dandelion of a goat is a delicacy in Tamil Nadu whereas the seized meat had them cut off.”

“The seizure happened on Friday. What took the RPF four days to file the FIR? There must be some vicious meat mafia behind the entire incident. Had the seizure not happened, illegal meat would have landed on the commonpeople's plate. In the first place, just one sample out of 2,100 kg of meat is just not enough to reach a conclusion, says Arun.
