Hyderabad: Tax increase is a must to provide quality infrastructure and civic facilities for the city. The GHMC must increase its property tax, trade tax and other civic charges and stop relying on the government for funds, said Union minister Venkaiah Naidu here on Friday. The Union minister lashed out at the GHMC officers for being blind to illegal constructions and nala encroachments.
“The GHMC should generate more revenue through its services. Citizens will not mind paying extra if quality service is provided. The GHMC’s priority should be motorable roads, clean toilets, sufficient public transport, parks and playgrounds. Fines for open defecation should only be imposed when proper service are in place,” he said.
