Supreme Court advocates appear for Sekhar Reddy, associates

Chennai: The special principal court for CBI cases, Chennai adjourned the bail petitions of sand mining baron and PWD contractor J. Sekhar Reddy and his associates to December 27.

When the bail petitions came up for hearing before the special principal judge for CBI cases, G. Vijaylakshmi, senior advocate, Supreme Court, Guru Krishna Kumar appeared for J. Sekhar Reddy and V. Srinivasalu, senior advocate, Abhishek Singhvi for Dindugal Rathinam and Muthupettai Ramachandran and Amit Desai for auditor Premkumar.
The special public prosecutor for CBI cases sought the court to take up hearing of the bail plea submitted by the accused and adjourn the petitions seeking police custody of the accused to next week.
Immediately, the counsels appearing on behalf of the accused raised objection as the accused, charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act, must be present during the hearing and their opinion sought and hence the court should hear the matters relating to both the petitions simultaneously.
The special principal judge, G. Vijaylakshmi adjourned the matter to Tuesday. Meanwhile, the court directed the prison authorities to consider the representations of J. Sekhar Reddy and V. Srinivasalu, seeking first class provision in the prison.
