Bengaluru: 3 city students drown at Hogenakkal
The deceased were second year diploma students of K.S. Polytechnic College at Talaghattapura.
BENGALURU: An outing by eight college students from the city to Hogenakkal falls in Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, had a tragic end on Friday with three of them drowning in the Cauvery at Alambadi coracle point situated on Hogenakkal-Anchetty state highway.
The Hogenakkal police along with the help of Fire and Emergency personnel fished out the bodies. While the bodies of Santhosh Kumar (22) and Balaji (18), residents of Kanakapura, were fished out on Friday, the body of Yeshas (18) from Uttarahalli was fished out on Saturday.
The deceased were second year diploma students of K.S. Polytechnic College at Talaghattapura. The police said they had gone to Hogenakkal in a car on Friday morning.
It is learnt that the group first visited Cini Falls and later went to take a bath at the Alambadi coracle point situated on Hogenakkal-Anchetty state highway and the incident took place at around 2 pm.
The police said it was Santosh who first got washed away. After seeing him shouting for help, Balaji and Yashas jumped into waters to rescue him. But, unfortunately, they too were carried away by the gushing waters, the police said.
Following the incident, a joint rescue operation from police and fire and emergency officials was launched and by dusk on Friday were able to find the bodies of Santosh and Balaji. They resumed the rescue operation on Saturday morning and fished out Yashas’ body within a few minutes of the resuming of the operation.
All the three bodies were shifted to Pennagaram Government Hospital for post-mortem, then handed over to the families of. A case has been registered at the Hogenakkal police station.
