BMRCL pushes for a commuter friendly staff

BENGALURU: A security guard at Sandal Soap Metro station displayed good presence of mind by helping a woman passenger who fainted while travelling in the train last Monday at 10.15 pm.

He, along with other commuters, helped the woman who was suffering from severe pain, onto a wheelchair and alerted her family members. He ensured the woman boarded an auto to a nearby hospital along with her family.

BMRCL Management issued a letter of appreciation to this staffer and to several others like him, for being helpful to metro commuters in distress.

After receiving several complaints against the BMRCL staff of rude and unhelpful behavior, many of them on social media addressed to its official Twitter handle, Namma Metro has been conducting numerous training programmes for their staff.

"The training for sensitization begins right after recruitment for station controllers, drivers, housekeeping, security guards and other staff. They are taught how to behave with commuters, especially senior citizens and differently abled," said Vasanth Rao, BMRCL CPRO.

For example, staff at all metro stations have been counseled on helping physically challenged commuters.

"They escort the person to the platform, help them board with a wheelchair if needed. After enquiring about the person's destination, the station controller at the respective station is informed in advance to keep a wheelchair or escort ready," Rao added.
